This set combines two British-issue LPs of
Marvin Gaye's early Motown tracks on a single CD, and there are several of
Gaye's classics here, including "Hitch Hike," "Ain't That Peculiar," "You're a Wonderful One," and "I'll Be Doggone" (but curiously no "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"), as well as his marvelous version of "Baby Don't You Do It." The more artful, jazzy, and personal stuff like the later-era "What's Going On?" isn't collected here, but that's fine. Early
Marvin Gaye is always fine. Any
Marvin Gaye is always fine.
