Album Review

Like other entries in Sony’s Playlist series, this 15-track collection intends to balance hits with album tracks and other oddities, creating more of an overview than a singles collection. In Hornsby’s case, this Playlist runs quite light on the singles -- “Every Little Kiss,” “On the Western Skyline,” “Look Out Any Window,” “Across the River,” and “Night on the Town” are all missing; basically any radio staple that isn’t “The Way It Is,” “The Valley Road,” and “Mandolin Rain” isn’t here -- in favor of painting a richer portrait of Hornsby’s full scope of talents. This means there are live cuts and tracks with a jazzy swing, so it does indicate Hornsby’s musical range which means it is a good overview…but fans looking for just the hits should stick with the appropriately named Greatest Radio Hits.
