Album Review

A more easygoing effort than Monkey Beat!!, with a decidedly more countrified influence. Echoes of Tex-Mex creep in here and there as well, and a few tracks have a horn section. A lot of Dawson fans will prefer Ronnie's wilder latter-day releases, where he lets go more, and where singing and playing skirt a more reckless, dangerous edge. Rockabilly's a limited form, though, and he should get some credit for playing around with the format mildly, instead of just serving up more of the same. It's still a solid, crisp record of reasonably strong material, though Dawson himself wrote little of it.
