Among the most experimental of the neo-electro Clear label's releases,
The Music of Sound is a trip through the mind of Doctor Rockit's
Matt Herbert. His obsession with sounds and sampling technology is still in full force, and several shorter tracks illustrate the experiments -- one has a metallic apple being crunched over and over, another dissects the individual words of a mother's question to a child ("Hello baby, want a cookie?"), and yet another reworks the asthmatic blowing of a cool jazz saxophonist. Most of the tracks, however, feature a steady beat at some point and the playful quality throughout makes
The Music of Sound quite a rewarding journey.
