Album Review

Like its predecessor Better Won't Make Your Life Better, the six-track EP Services (For the Soon to Be Departed) remains stuck in a Sixties time-warp, although this release moves ahead a few years out of the British Invasion era and toward the advent of psychedelia. The distinguishing characteristics of cuts like "The Energy Channel" and "First Half Second" are their fuzzy guitar riffs and squiggly keyboard textures, and while they're delivered with the Lilys' usual genre-hopping ease, in the end they offer only the same temporal gratification as the band's other efforts.
