The A-side off the third single from
Life Without Buildings is punky and jumpy, skipping merrily along until a nifty switch about two minutes in.
Sue Tompkins points her finger at someone for being a "nice scene steal-ah," an inelastic
Mark E. Smith moment if there ever was one. It would later be re-recorded for
Any Other City. The flip side is actually identified as a B-side, differing from the previous singles' AA-sides. That's odd, because "Daylighting" is just as good as the prior flip sides. Though still very much
Life Without Buildings, the slow, gentle instrumentation and hushed vocals sound a fair amount like
the Sundays on a decent day. If it weren't for
Tompkins' repetitive stuttering, you'd think she was
Harriet Wheeler. Not a bad thing at all.
