Gord Downie has been working on-and-off with Toronto’s The Sadies for many years and are finally releasing a full album of songs on April 15th. Downie’s solo work in the past has been very different from the music he makes with The Hip but if the first single “Crater” is any indication, this "sound" of this collaboration is more than familiar. The Sadies is a band that earned a ton of respect from the Canadian music community. From the outset, this collaboration had a great promise and the first single sounds great. Check it out.

The press release for the new album makes a bold statement:

Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun is the self-titled debut record. This is the mission statement of a young band unhinged. Ten songs of visceral punk rock exultation; a spirited half-hour exploration of the darkness surrounding daylight. Each song brims with energy, electricity embellishing a simple, rustic core — now all brash guitars and punk rock gnarl. Gord Downie, The Sadies, And The Conquering Sun is an arrival: the combustion of brotherhood and dissent: music of wisdom and innocence: poetry of promise and provocation.
