This is a truly sad time with the news this weekend of the passing of Tommy Ramone, the last surviving member of the legendary THE RAMONES. Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny and now Tommy - all gone way-before they should have. Tommy started as the band’s manager but when they couldn’t get anybody who could keep up with the breakneck pace of their shows, he took over as their drummer.
The Ramones man, if you don’t know why I’m a little choked up and sentimental this weekend it’s because we’re talking about a legendary punk band, arguably the first and certainly the band that laid the foundation for punk and for the Sex Pistols, The Clash and legions of other kids starting bands in their basements. Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Sedated, Rockaway Beach, Pinhead, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Teenage Lobotomy are just a few of the mandatory Ramones songs. Fast, loud, hard, relentless …. but I won’t say simple. Few give them enough credit as good musicians.
Below is a 25 minute blitzkreig of Ramonesmania. Turn it up LOUD!
“Gabba gabba hey!"
