“What is a busker? A person who performs in the streets for some kind of payment. Performances can be just about anything that people find entertaining. Performers may do acrobatics, animal tricks, balloon twisting, card tricks, caricatures, clowning, comedy, contortions, escapology, dance, singing, fire skills, flea circus, fortune-telling, juggling, magic, mime, living statue, musical performance, puppeteering, snake charming, storytelling or reciting poetry or prose, street art such as sketching and painting, street theatre, sword swallowing, and ventriloquism.” – Wikipedia
City Council in St. Catharines once again voted ‘NO’ to bring Buskerfest to St. Catharines. Apparently in years past there had been poor communication between Buskerfest Organizers and the downtown core of St. Catharines which lead to storefront businesses being blocked by vendors which was a big issue.
It’s too bad St. Catharines couldn’t find another place to put it this year. It didn’t have to be downtown…maybe one of the many parks could have been better suited for this event. Either way…Buskerfest in St. Catharines is a no-go. St. Catharines loss has become Thorold’s gain. Niagara Buskerfest will move to Front Street in Thorold for the August 15th to 17th weekend. Thorold may be the permanent home for Niagara’s Buskerfest. I guess we will see how this year’s festival works out.
I have been to these before in Kingston ON, they are a ton of a fun and a place to see live entertainment like you can’t see anywhere else.
