I am misunderstood sometimes.

I just have a different outlook...because of my mom.


She got polio when she was 2 years old.  That led to a lot of problems with her legs, hips and back throughout her life.

She always told me I wasn't allowed to say the word "can't" ...because if she learned to walk 4 different times in her life...anything is possible. 

"There is no choice. You have to keep moving forward".


She walked with a limp.  Kids used to tease me and tell me my mom was "retarded'....just because she limped.

That is probably the reason I am now fiercely  protective of the ones I love.


In her later years she had problems with high blood pressure, strokes, Lupus and kidney failure.

Then ... Cancer hit her ...right in the kidney.

Mom never said "my cancer",  "my lupus", "my high blood pressure", "my kidneys".

It was May 9th,1988 when I first said “97.7 HTZ FM” on the radio.

Today marks 25 years since my hiring here.

I can’t say I’ve been here for 25 years..I left for 3 to work at a record company.

 

1988…

A time when there was no such things as cell phones, texting, twitter, emails, facebook, blogs or digital music.

It was just us, a microphone, some cds, a pen to write down requests and a phone.  It was a day when people actually talked instead of hiding behind the internet.

 

It’s been 25 years at 97.7 HTZ FM.

This place has been part of my life for over half of my life.

 

I remember my first trip down here for my interview.

It was 1988…I was a very different person then.  I was young and full of piss and vinegar.
