The Who Make Up

Have you ever been stiffed at a concert?

You travel a long way to the concert only to find it’s been cancelled at the last minute or arrangements didn’t pan-out.

Years ago when I was working at a college radio station in London and  I drove all the way in to Toronto to see The English Beat. Somebody was to leave me tickets at the box office to pick up. There were no tickets and I never got in. Sure enough, the English Beat broke up and never toured again.

Today a story came up about fans who bought tickets to see The Who in Providence back in 1979. At the last moment, the mayor cancelled the concert over safety concerns. Eleven people had been trampled at a Who concert in Cincinnati and the mayor didn’t want to see a repeat in his quiet little city.

That was 33 years ago.

This year when The Who put together their  Quadrophenia tour they decided to make it up to the people of Providence. The last show on their tour will be in the same place where they were cancelled 33 years before.

Here’s the good part...die hard fans who still hold their stubs to the cancelled 1979 show are trading them in for tickets to the final show. Any 1979 tickets redeemed will be donated to help raise money for Special Olympics.

Love, Reign O’er Me

The Who will play their classic album, QUADROPHENIA in it's entirety at the Air Canada Centre on November 23 and in Buffalo at the First Niagara Center on February 19th.

You should go.
