A Celebration Day
When word came down 5 years ago that the 3 remaining members of Led Zeppelin would be reuniting for a concert, I really had my doubts. Some of music and videos that Plant had put out in the years leading up to the reunion were not good. The power and range of his once mighty voice seemed gone. The swagger was still there but the pipes was “shaky & warbly” Singing Zeppelin songs is something of a feat and I really had my doubts whether Robert Plant could pull off a full set of songs without embarrassing himself.
As you will see below, Plant sounds magnificent! I heard a bootleg of the full show shortly after they performed and was impressed. Strange as it might seem, I DON’T want to see them reform and tour....but I would LOVE to have them record again. I still think can make a grand album. John Paul Jones recent chops as part of Them Crooked Vultures was amazing and Jimmy Page still has great chops and Robert Plants two most recent albums Band of Joy and Raising Sand were indicator of a vocalist at the top of his game, although singing in a different genre. Plant recently said that he’s finding his “rock voice” again. Page, Plant & JP Jones have been avoid all talk about a reunion but denying nothing. Here’s hoping!
The concert movie Celebration Day will hit selected theatres on October 17 in what likely be a very short run. Concert movies don't do as well as movies about the end of the world or superheroes. The DVD/CD releases come out November 19th.
Most of us never got to see Zeppelin in their prime. All we've got are the records. EXCEPT the exceptional DVD/CD comp of vintage Zeppelin performance,How The West Was Won. I'd up those performance against anything.
Here's a clip of early Zeppelin in full flight- UNBELIEVABLE!
