Heavy Metal - The Avett Bros - Chris Cornell
One of my guilty pleasures is a folk-rock-bluegrass band out of the North Carolina called The Avett Brothers (EH-vett). They're one of those bands that flew under the radar for so many years and then one day Rick Rubin saw, signed, produced and brought them to national attention. A couple of years ago, when Bob Dylan performed "Maggie's Farm" at the Grammy's, he had Avett's on one side - Mumford & Sons on the other, both serving as his backing band. You probably know the Mumford story but the Avett's has yet to rise as high. They have loads of indie cred & and its almost impossible to get a ticket to one of their concertss but most people have never heard of them.
Enter Jimmy Fallon who has had them as musical guests on the show a couple of times. Monday night they played one of their new songs with Soundgarden frontman, Chris Cornell (WOW)... but also had a hand in one of Jimmy's sketches: bluegrass renditions of Run To The Hills, IronMan and Metallica's One.
