It will be a snow free drive in the Steel City this winter.
Members of the public works committee recommending the city spend an extra half a million dollars this year to make sure roads are ploughed right down to the bare pavement.
Currently, city crews are told to plow the roads until motorists are able to drive on hard packed snow.
The changes are a reaction to complaints during a blizzard last Boxing Day when some side streets weren't plowed for days.
The money will be used to pay for extra crews, equipement and materials.
