Deal in Lincoln County Humane Society strike

5/16/2012

After 82 days, the strike at the Lincoln County Humane Society looks to be over.

Animal shelter bosses & the union reached a tentative deal Wednesday night after a full day of negotiations.

CUPE national representative Dean Mainville calls the agreement "fair for all parties" & one he hopes will get the stamp of approval from Local 1287 members.

They'll vote on the deal Thursday morning.  It isn't clear when the Lincoln County Humane Society's board will hold its ratification vote, but Mainville hopes to put the dispute to bed before the long weekend.

About a dozen unionized humane society workers have been walking the picket line since February 24th.

Mainville says over the course of labour dispute, they were able to work through issues flagged by the union as problematic---the creation of a 2 tiered workplace & elimination of benefits & sick time for new hires.

Mainville couldn't provide any specifics about the deal.  CUPE's full time staffers should be back on the job at the Lincoln County Humane Society in the next week.
