St. Catharines is losing 2 high schools.
District School Board of Niagara trustees have voted to close Kernahan Park & West Park Secondary Schools in August of 2013.
Thorold's only high school was spared from the chopping block.
The vote was close as as it could be be, with 5 trustees voting with a recommendation by senior board staff , 5 voting against. Board Chair Kevin Maves cast the deciding vote.
Maves says didn't think it was wise to mess with staff's recommendations, recalling the board's actions before they chose to close Niagara-on-the-Lake's only high school in 20-10.
After voting to close it, DSBN trustees gave Niagara District Secondary School one last chance to boost enrolment, but the school fell short by about 100 students.
At Tuesday's board meeting, Maves hinted it wasn't a path he wanted to take again.
West Park parents & students say the fight for their schools isn't over. They're working on an appeal to the Education Minister to put the planned closures on hold & are hoping for a reversal.
