Police search for suspect in two random assaults

Police are warning Welland residents to be on alert following a couple of seemingly random attacks.

On Thursday evening, just around the supper hour, two 13-yea-old boys were in Chippawa Park in Welland when a pickup pulled up, a male got out, charged at both teens, pushing them up against a wall and assaulting them.

The suspect took off in the truck. Neither of the boys was seriously hurt.

Then, on Friday morning around 7 a.m., a 38 year old man was waiting for a bus on First and Thorold Road when a dark coloured pickup pulled up in front of him.  A man got out of the truck and attacked, punching the victim several times in the head.  The suspect climbed back in to the truck and took off.  There was another man who remained in the truck during the attack.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The suspect is described as white, 40 to 50 years of age, 5'8", medium build with short white, balding hair and scruffy facial hair.

The truck is describe as a a grey or black pickup truck with an Ontario licence plate possibly starting with A A and the number 3 in it.
