A 47-year old Welland man is facing abduction charges after an incident in the Rose City on Monday.

Niagara Regional Police say a man walked into a home where a 6-year old girl was being babysat by her 14-year old sister, and fled with the 6-year old.

Police add the man was a family acquaintance.

Thankfully the mother of the child was arriving home just when the abductor was walking away with the youngster.  She immediately called police. 

Brian Jarvis was arrested and charged with abduction of a person under 14 years of age, as well as being unlawfully in a dwelling house and breaching his probation order.
