Quebec student strike tour in St.Catharines Sunday

7/15/2012

Quebec student strike leaders will be speaking in St Catharines as part of Ontario Tour this afternoon.

Jeremie Badard-Wein, Financial Secretary of CLASSE and Marianne Breton Fontaine, editor of Jeunesse Militante, will speak at 5 p.m at 21 King Street in downtown St. Catharines.

It's part of a cross-Ontario tour by Quebec student strike activists to explain how their strike developed and what residents in Niagara can do to support them.

The tour is organized by the Canadian Federation of Students.

Students in Quebec are on strike against a tuition increase.

A local organizer of the tour representing People's Voice newspaper, Saleh Waziruddin says the tuition hike in Quebec is similar to cutbacks in Niagara such as the closures of emergency rooms in Fort Erie, Port Colborne, and Welland.

So far 27 people have confirmed they are attending the event on the group's Facebook page.
