A major industrial fire in Welland is causing traffic problems and sending heavy smoke across the city.

It's on Kennedy Street at the old Henniges Automotive Plant.

Several fire trucks are on the scene.

Cranes are being used to douse the flames.

Eyewitnesses tell 610 CKTB News they can feel the heat and had to close windows in their car because the smoke is so heavy in the area.

Officers are shutting down some area roads to give firefighters more room.

No injuries have been reported.

There's no word on the cause of the fire.
