Thorold's Mayor is calling the former Regional Chair to discuss comments he made regarding amalgamating Thorold.
Peter Partington, who now works with Canada Pension Plan thinks Thorold merging with St.Catharines or Welland makes sense.
He tells CKTB News that he was being interviewed and was asked directly about amalgamating smaller communities.
He says merging Thorold with St.Catharines and/or Welland, or Pelham with Welland and/or Wainfleet makes sense.
Partington feels these are better options than creating one big city.
Ted Luciani tells 610 CKTB News he is strictly against the idea, and wants to know why Partington is bringing this up now.
Luciani says Partington never brought up the idea while serving as chair.
He says he is open to shared services, but amalgamations rarely save money.
Luciani says he will be calling Partington and asking him out to lunch to discuss his latest comments.
