Americans are spending more in Canada than they have in almost 4 years.
New figures from Statistics Canada show US travellers spent $1.9-billion here in the 2nd quarter of this year. That's a 1.3% bump over the 1st quarter & the highest amount since the end of 2008.
Spending by all foreign visitors to Canada was up 0.8% to $4.4-billion, the highest mark since the end of 2004.
The gains were offset though, by Canadians spending more of our dollars abroad
Stats Can says Canadians spent $8.5-billion outside the country in the 2nd quarter, up 1.5% from the 1st. Canadians spent 1.3% more in the US.
Last week, Statistics Canada reported cross-border trips to the states jumped 7.5% in June to the highest level since 1972.
