Ottawa MPP wants audit of OLG's gaming plans

8/29/2012

An Ottawa MPP will use her one private members bill this year to get Ontario's Auditor General to review the OLG.

Lisa MacLeod wants the auditor to look into the corporation's revenue and expenditure projections, mental health and addictions impact and its effect on the horse racing industry in the province.

Ontario’s horseracing community stands to lose upwards of 60 thousand jobs as a result of OLG’s Plans to remove the Slots At Racetracks program.

MacLeod, whose riding includes the Rideau Carleton Raceway, says from a rural aspect, it is clear that there will be catastrophic consequences with the cancellation of the Slots at Racetracks program.

In Ottawa alone, over one thousand jobs could be lost if the Rideau track is closed added MacLeod.

In addition to her call for Ontario’s Auditor General to review OLG’s Plans, MacLeod will also ask the Legislature to reconfirm that before any new casinos are built a municipal referendum take place.

The motion is up for debate on Thursday, August 30 and MacLeod expects her motion to receive support from members of all parties.
