Grismby council to get WLMH petition
Grimsby town council will get a petition with over 500 names Monday night, asking the provincial government to rethink axing the rebuild of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
The Liberals cancelled the project in last week's budget to help reduce the province's $15-billion dollar. The government pledged a revamp of West Lincoln Memorial in 2005.
The online petition says West Niagara deserves "an updated, clean & safe hospital". It underlines that residents have raised $13-million to help with the rebuild & asks the government to reconsider.
Cancellation of the West Lincoln Memorial rebuild came as a shock to the hospital's board of directors, who say they had been getting nothing but positive messaging from the Ministry of Health as recently as this month.
The board has sent a letter to Health Minister Deb Matthews, expressing disappointment at the decision to cancel the rebuild. In the letter, Board Chair Vaughn Warrington asks for a meeting with Matthews to learn more about the decision & about future plans for health care in West Niagara.
