Rafferty cries, apologizes at sentencing

5/15/2012

Michael Rafferty apologized to Victoria Stafford's family in court after hearing the devastating effects of the little girl's death.

But he maintains he's innocent of kidnapping, raping & killing 8-year-old Tori, the 3 crimes he was convicted of Friday.

Rafferty spoke after listening to emotional statements by Tori's family.

He said that while he's "very definitely part of why Victoria's not here today," he stands "firmly behind" his not-guilty plea.

Rafferty was formally sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. He was also sentenced to 10 years to be served concurrently for sexual assault causing bodily harm & kidnapping.

Earlier, the convicted killer sat in the prisoner's box & cried as he heard the words of Tori's brother describing how his heart has been "ripped out."
