Ont. government to force teacher contract Aug. 27

8/20/2012

MPPs are having their summer break cut short.

The Ontario government is recalling the legislature August 27th to introduce the "Putting Students First Act".

The bill would force a 2-year contract on the province's teachers.

For weeks, the Liberals have been threatening to introduce the bill if teachers didn't sign new contracts with school boards by August 31st.

They say they can't afford for old contracts to roll over in the face of a $15-billion deficit.

The Liberals need the support of at least 1 opposition party to pass the bill.
