A strike vote will be held for Niagara College's teachers September 10th.

The union, OPSEU Local 242 represents hundreds of instructors, professors, librarians and counsellors.

President of the union, Sherri Rosen tells CKTB News she is hoping for a strong strike mandate to get the college back to the bargaining table.

The union tabled 28 demands in June.

The agreement between OPSEU and the college expires August 31st.

Rosen says she has three specific demands including, academic freedom, how teachers delivering online courses are compensated, and improvements for teachers who work part-time hours.

Rosen says they are asking for a minimal wage increase and that's not the strike issue.

Rosen says she is ready to head back to the bargaining table.

College officials say classes will be starting as usual on Tuesday September 4th.

Despite the threat of a possible strike by teachers, Niagara College is preparing to welcome a record setting number of first year students.

Over 47 hundred first years will cross through the college's doors this fall.
