The end of an era for two West Niagara fairs.
For some the Labour Day weekend means a trip to the Smithville Fair at the fairgrounds, but that tradition will be coming to an end.
The gates opened at the fair on Thursday night for the 135th and final time.
The Smithville Agricultural Society will fold at the end of the year and form a new organization with the Lincoln Agricultural Society.
The Lincoln County Fair will also celebrate it's final fair at the current location at the Beamsville Fairgrounds September 7-9th.
The Beamsville Fairgrounds have been sold to a developer.
Both groups are looking for a new property, which borders Grimsby and West Lincoln at the corner of Mud Street and Regional Road 12.
It is the subject of an Ontario Municipal Board hearing in November.
