The Niagara Health System's government appointed supervisor says his final report on the future of our local health system may be in the hands of the health minister sooner rather than later.

Dr. Kevin Smith tells Newstalk 610 CKTB that, optimistically, Deb Matthews could have the report by the end of this week or the beginning of the next.

When would the minister release it publically?

"As soon as she feels comfortable." says Dr. Smith.  

There are still a few minor details to iron out regarding the two biggest issues, the new south Niagara hospital and obstetrics in the region.

Dr. Smith says this is an important moment for health care services in the Niagara Region both in the short and long term.
