Provincial bill to ban bonuses clears another hurdle

9/7/2012

A New Democrat bill that would temporarily ban bonuses for top executives and managers in the broader public sector has cleared
another hurdle.

Gilles Bisson's private member's bill goes to committee for review after passing second reading in the legislature yesterday.

The N-D-P says the bill would eliminate performance pay and all forms of incentive pay for the next two years.

The legislation was drafted after The Canadian Press reported that nearly 98 per cent of eligible civil servants received
performance pay last year when their wages were frozen.
