9/8/2012

A number of Niagara Regional Police officers spent their Friday night looking for drunks behind the wheel, stopping more than 500 cars, vans and SUV's as the NRP kicked off its Fall R.I.D.E. campaign.

In all, 16 drivers were asked to provide breath samples, resulting in two arrests for drunk driving, two arrests for failing to provide a breath sample and one arrest for driving under the influence of drugs as well as possession.

One driver was handed a three day license suspension for blowing a point-zero-five and another 10 tickets were doled out for various driving and alcohol infractions.

Police are giving drivers notice, R.I.D.E. programs will continue throughout the year and remind everyone don't drink and drive.

Drunk driving is still the leading cause of criminal deaths in this country.
