MRSA outbreak at Welland Hospital

An outbreak of the MRSA bacteria at the Welland Hospital.

The Niagara Health System declared the outbreak in the 4th floor surgical unit of the facility.

There have been five cases in the unit since the begining of the month, slightly higher than what is considered the normal threshold.  Currently there are two cases in the unit.

The NHS has all infection and control measure are in place to prevent the spread of the infection and to help end the outbreak as soon as possible.

Earlier this week, the Hotel Dieu hospital declared a MRSA outbreak after five patients tested positive for the infection.

MRSA is spread usually through hand contact.
