Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free a man from his car early this morning on the Mellanby Avenue bridge in Port Colborne.

Police and paramedics responded to the area around six this morning to find the man trapped inside.

The man has been taken to Welland General Hospital with his condition unknown at this time.

Police continue their investigation.

The Mellanby Avenue bridge has since re-opened.
