Contrary to media reports on the weekend, the Niagara Health System's interim supervisor has not been asked by Health Minister Deb Matthews to stay on in that position for the forseeable future.
Dr. Kevin Smith tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis this morning he was not asked by Matthews to extend his term.
Dr. Smith says the confusion may be coming from the release of the report on the future of health care in the Niagara Region which outlines the next step Smith will take in rebuilding the health system's battered reputation.
He adds they will be moving forward on several recommendations including beginning a search for a CEO, forming a community based nominating committee and forming a new board.
