NRP in trouble again, this time for smuggling cheese

9/24/2012

The CBC reporting several members of the NRP may find themselves facing charges in connection with an alleged cheese smuggling ring.

The CBC says it  has learned from numerous police sources, charges are expected soon against a few officers who are alleged to have been involved in the movement of caseloads of cheese from the U.S. to sell to Canadian pizzerias and restaurants.

The news agency says the investigation into the alleged cheese smuggling ring stems from the arrest of NRP Constable Geoff Purdie by U-S Homeland Security in April.

Purdie is facing charges of conspiracy to smuggle more than  half a million dollars in steroids and other drugs in Canada

The CBC says  American cheese is about  a third  of the price it is in Canada, and drivers who smuggle it in their vehicles over the border can  make up to two thousand dollars a trip.
