NRP officer, former cop, and Fort Erie resident facing charges in Cheese smuggling ring

9/27/2012

Three men, including an NRP officer and a former cop, are facing charges stemming from the Cheese Smuggling story 610 CKTB reported on earlier this week.

39-year old officer Scott Heron has been suspended by Chief Jeff McGuire.

48-year old Casey Langelaan was a cop at the time when the offences occured, but is no longer employed by the Niagara Regional Police.

And 44-year old Bernie Pollino is a resident of Fort Erie.

All three men are facing numerous charges.

The network involved the purchasing of cases of cheese and other food items and transporting the cases into Canada, without declaring the items or paying duty.  Once the products arrived in the country, they were sorted and prepared for distribution to a variety of restaurants in Southern Ontario.

The investigation revealed that over $200,000 worth of cheese and other products were purchased and distributed for an estimated profit of over $165,000.
