Justin Trudeau will launch his Liberal leadership campaign with an rally tonight that's designed to show he has what it takes to revive the once-mighty party.
As many as 500 supporters are expected to attend the launch in Trudeau's Montreal riding of Papineau.
Insiders say his speech is aimed at disproving critics who say that the 40-year-old is little more than a celebrity M-P with a handsome face and famous name.
What's being called a ``meaty'' speech is designed to show he's got a ``mature and thoughtful'' perspective on the country while offering a blunt diagnosis of why the Liberal party is in such dire straits.
That diagnosis is expected to say the Liberals have lost touch with middle-class Canadians who used to be the party's core.
He will offer his prescription for reconnecting with the middle class and rebuilding the party, which was reduced to a third-party rump in the 2011 election.
Trudeau will set out across the country immediately after his launch, hitting Calgary and Richmond, B-C tomorrow and a rally in Mississauga on Thursday.
Trudeau is the eldest son of former prime minister and Liberal icon Pierre Trudeau.
The son of Pierre Trudeau is already the party's biggest draw at fundraisers and boasts more than 150-thousand Twitter followers.
