General Motors of Canada has announced some good news and it includes the Garden City.

The company has added a third shift of production at St. Catharines Powertrain to support production of six-speed front wheel drive transmissions.

GM will also add a third shift at Oshawa Assembly on the Flexible Manufacturing Line and one shift of production will be extended on the Consolidated Line in Oshawa until June, 20-14.

MP Rick Dykstra says word that General Motors of Canada will increase production of the Chevrolet Impala is good news for both the St. Catharines and Oshawa operations. 

Since the launch of the new GM in 2009, GM has announced significant investments in Canadian manufacturing facilities totaling around $1 billion dollars.

In a release, the company says the latest moves depend on market demand.
