Dolphin activist says Marineland is one of the worst

10/6/2012

Ontario's Community Safety Minister says her ministry is looking over laws governing animals in zoos and theme parks.

Madeleine Meilleur says changes will be made if necessary.

Yesterday, the star of an Academy Award-winning documentary on dolphin abuse urged the province to create laws to better protect captive animals, such as those at Marineland.

Ric O'Barry, a former dolphin trainer turned animal activist, says Marineland is the worst park he's seen by far in progressive countries.

Former Marineland employees have alleged animals at the park aren't properly cared for.

A protest is planned at Marineland Sunday. Tomorrow marks the last day of the park's 2012 season.
