Breastfeeding challenge at Fairview Mall today

10/6/2012

Niagara moms will be given the opportunity to celebrate breastfeeding today at the Fairview Mall in St. Catharines.

The region's public health department is hosting the sixth annual Breastfeeding Challenge aimed at highlighting the importance of breast milk in a child's early years.

The world wide event takes place on the first Saturday of October.

Women will come together to breastfeed their babies at the same time in order to break a record.

According to public health nurse Catherine Lowes the record in Niagara is 53 moms at the same time.

Public health nurses will be on hand to demonstrate promotion, protection and support for breastfeeding moms and their families.

Women are asked to register between 10:00 am and 10:30 am near the food court with the latch on taking place at 11:00 am.

For more information on the challenge or breastfeeding, just go to the Niagara Region Breastfeeding coalition website at breastfeedingniagara.ca or call the parent talk line at public health, at (905) 688-8248 extension 7555.
