Looks like smokers will have to butt out in St. Catharines parks

10/10/2012

The city of St. Catharines is looking to ban smoking in all city parks and sports fields.

Council will discuss a report on the issue from city solicitor Chris Cooper at its next meeting October 15th.

Cooper's report recommends a fine of 125 dollars for people caught lighting up.

But Cooper also notes the region is considering a Niagara wide ban as well.

He suggests St. Catharines councillors wait to see what the region does before they move to impose a ban.

Too much debating! Just do it already. I am a smoker who sees careless, ignorant smokers abusing the ability to smoke in public too much.

@dave Besides the fact that I doubt you are actually are a smoker, Dave, what justification do they have for banning smoking in parks and, at this rate, everywhere except your home? (which they've tried!) Second-hand smoke, pollution, waste? Tell ya what, I don't drive... why should I have to inhale exhaust fumes from people who are too lazy to walk or ride a bike? Might as well ban driving with that mindset.
