Fort Erie residents reeling from the closure of the both the racetrack and the slots, are anxiously waiting for the results of a hearing that could determine the fate of a proposed speedway.
A decision on whether the 400 million dollar Canadian Motor Speedway can proceed could come any day now.
Fort Erie Mayor Doug Martin says they had hoped the Ontario Municipal Board would have handed down a decision last month, but he notes you can't rush the OMB.
Martin points out there wasn't any strong opposition to the plan, so he is hoping for a favourable response.
The mayor says a decision could come any day now and he anticipates the developer won't wait to put the shovel in the ground.
The speedway, on 821 acres of land in the town, will feature seating for 64 thousand as well as a camping area and a commercial complex.
