St. Catharines city council taking a wait and see attitude before implementing a smoking ban in public parks and sports fields.
Mayor Brian McMullan tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis they received a report on the issue from the city solicitor last night and decided to hold off on taking action for now.
McMullan pointing out the region is also looking at a similiar ban so they've decided to wait to see how regional councillors deal with the issue first.
But the mayor notes he is confident if the region fails to act, St. Catharines will.
McMullan says it actually makes sense for regional officials to implement the ban because through public health they are responsible for all the smoking cessation programs.
