Ottawa announcing changes to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Niagara Falls MP and Justice Minister Rob Nicholson tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis this morning, the changes will help keep repeat young offenders off the streets before they go to trial.
Nicholson says the move will not only help protect the general public but will also protect the young offender from committing another offense.
The Justice Minister says this won't mean more young people in jail because it only impacts a very small segment of our population.
He adds the changes will also require police to keep records of juvenile offenders so they can track any developing patterns in their criminal behaviour.
Ottawa will also ask the courts to lift the publication ban on the names of young offenders convicted of violent crime.
