VIA Rail cuts take effect today

10/25/2012

If your heading to the VIA station in either Niagara Falls or St. Catharines, don't expect to talk to a ticket agent.

Yesterday was the last day customers could buy tickets or get other information from an on sight VIA representative at the stations.

Announced earlier this year, VIA will now have unmanned stations in the two cities, leaving no one to sell tickets or help people board trains.

The train company says travellers can either buy tickets online or at self serve kiosks.

As well, the 6:21 AM train and the 7:44 PM train between Niagara Falls and Toronto will no longer be running.

And don't get there too early,  the waiting room will only be open 30 minutes before arrivals and departures.
