NRP Chief Jeff McGuire visits CKTB studios

10/30/2012

Niagara's police chief stopping by the 610 CKTB studios this morning to talk with our Tom McConnell on a wide variety of issues impacting the force.

Jeffrey McGuire commenting on the police budget.

The tentative spending plan includes a 2.87 percent spending increase which is 0.3 percent more than the region had requested.

McGuire explains while he is aware of the importance of keeping spending in line there are some costs that are hard to control.

He says homocide and drug investigations drive up overtime costs.

He points out even though it made a huge impact on the drug trade in Niagara,  Project Ink which saw police seize 110 kilos of cocaine,  cost a lot of money to investigate.

Chief McGuire also hopes when they move to a new headquarters in Niagara Falls it will allow them to centralize some operations which will help save money.
