A Niagara Regional police officer has pleaded guilty to smuggling anabolic steroids from the U-S into Canada.
41 year old Geoff Purdie appeared before a Buffalo court yesterday where he entered the plea.
According to the U-S Justice Department, Purdie made several trips to the U-S last year to pick up packages containing steroids that had been shipped to a private mailing company in Niagara Falls, New York.
Purdie showed his police I-D to immigration at the border while bringing the steroids into Canada.
A U-S attorney for the Western District of New York says in a media release, " It is particularly egregious when a member of law enforcement violates his oath of office in order to engage in international criminal activity."
A sentencing hearing for Purdie is scheduled for February of next year.
He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail, a maximum $500,000 fine or a combination of both.
