Seaway Mall credits security cameras with attempted abduction arrest
Seaway Mall says it's a good thing they have cameras
President Mike Belcastro says they were only called after Zellars personnel had let a man accused of trying to abduct a five year old boy from his mother go.
It happened Sunday afternoon in the store's toy section. The mother felt her son tugging her hand; when she looked over there was a man holding her son's other hand trying to pry him away.
The suspect let go after the mother started yelling, the father was able to catch him and turned him over to a store employee.
Belcastro says the employee walked him to the front of the store, let him go then called mall security.
He says they immediately got in touch with police and started pouring over camera footage, coming up with the image that went viral and led to an arrest.
Belcastro says his security team is well trained with protocol in place to deal with situations like this, as long as they're called in.
