Hamilton Harbour clean up can finally move forward
Environment Minister Peter Kent has committed funding to the Randle Reef remediation project in Hamilton harbour.
Kent confirms the federal government is kicking in just over 46 million dollars -- or about a third of the nearly 140-million-dollar project.
The province previously announced the same amount of funding, while Hamilton, U-S Steel and the Hamilton Port Authority are each putting forward 14 million dollars.
The area of toxic chemicals that will be contained by the project is the size of about 120 football fields and is a legacy of a variety of past industrial processes dating back to the 1800's.
