A new poll shows retirement planning is no longer the biggest priority for Canadians.
In fact, according to a new CIBC Harris-Decima survey we're more concerned about paying down our debts.
For those of us struggling to get our head above the water, particularly with Christmas bills to pay for,
there is help.
Birgit Bedesky with Credit Counselling of Regional Niagara says they are a non profit agency that provides help free of charge for those struggling with debt.
Bedesky says they are aware how hard it is to remain within a budget particularly when we are constantly bombarded with ads encouraging us to spend.
She says the first priority should be to make sure you have enough to pay the mortgage or rent.
Bedesky also urges people to start the New Year with a resolution and a budget for the coming year to make sure they don't add to their existing debtloads.
So in other words, start planning for next Christmas now.
